A parish in Fifeshire, somewhat irregular in form, is computed to be about 5 miles and 3 furlongs in length. The breadth varies from 1 to 3½ miles. The total Surface comprises about 5800 Scotch acres. It is bounded on the east by the parishes of Markinch and Dysart; on the South by the latter, but chiefly by that of Auchterderran, also stretching along the western limits to the Northwest corner which is touched by parts of Portmoak and Ballingry; and its northern extremity is washed by the Leven, on the opposite side of which the parishes of Portmoak and Leslie meet. This parish is watered by the Lochty Burn and the River Orr, on the banks of these rivulets the surface is flat, rising with a gentle ascent and forming two Small Ridges. The whole of it is arable, and above 5000 acres are under tillage.
