027 [Situation] East End of Anstruther Easter.
A long, narrow And irregularly formed Village at the East end of Anstruther having Only One Street running East and West the houses On each side of which are very irregularly built Varying from One to three Stories in height, And are principally Occupied by fishermen And their families. There is a good harbour for boats at the East end of the Village, but Cannot be entered except at full tides. It is very dangerous to enter it when there is a Strong Wind blowing from the N.E.E. [North East East] or S.E. [South East].
The principal occupation of its inhabitants is fishing particularly for herring in the Season great quantities of which are Taken by the CellardyKe Fishermen And Cured both here And in Anstruther. The affairs of the Village are Conducted by three Magistrates who are Annually appointed by the Court of Session.
