039 [situation] 7/8 Mile N. [North] of Hillend.
A small building, with low square towers on the S.E [South East] and N.W. [North West] corners, with a piece of ornamental ground on the South and West sides. The proprietor Capn. [Captain] Henderson is absent, but Mr. Fowles, the gardener (a very intelligent man) says the building was formerly the residence of the Proprietors before the present Modern Mansion was built, that it was erected in the 14th Century, was afterwards burned down and rebuilt - It is at present undergoing repair to make it fit for a residence. There is no tradition known of it. from its situation and construction it does not appear to have been built for defensive purposes, but merely as a dwelling.
