Dear Sir,
I have your
favor. St Heriots lane & St Heriots
well are ancient names. We
have also St John's well. Inverkeithing
[is ill] supplied with water & during
the summer months we have some
times none. Before wells were
covered in & pumps used we may
suppose in ancient times it
was still scarcer. The devout
people therefore named their wells
after saints in the hope that ....
