Upon the spot shewn on tracing stood the Castle of Kingsbarns, the former residence of the lords of the Manor. No account, tradition or otherwise, of its strength, date of erection, etc. exists, but it is said in the locality that it was built and occasionally occupied by some of the Scottish Kings, and that it had a granary or barn attached: to this they ascribe the origin of the name "Kingsbarns". No remains of this Castle are now visible, except the moat by which it was surrounded. The given authorities, who pointed out the site, remember the foundations being removed a few years ago. -
