Large quantities of human bones have been from time to time found in it. It is not now used as a burying ground.

[Quotation] About 200 yards west of the farm-steading of Ayton, and within a small clump of trees, are the ruins of an old chapel, 18 feet in length by 11 in breadth, with its burying ground, which appears to have been the burial place of the Aytons of Ayton. On one of the walls of the chapel is a tablet on which are carved four shields with coats of arms, and the date 1688 etc etc. Stat Acct. [Statistical Account]
