A small hill on the north side of Braeside Hill on this hill a few years ago was found several ancient coins The spot in which the coins were found was shewn to Capt. [Captain] James R.E. [Royal Engineers] when examining the Plan, by James Buist - farmer of Braeside in whose ground it is situated.
In the New Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account] of Fife there is also mention of several ancient coins of England and Scotland being found in this parish. See Stat. Acct [Statistical Account] page 51.
Capt. [Captain] James could not ascertain what was the date or to what reign did they belong. The designation written on plan and the spot marked are the same as by order of Capt. [Captain] James R.E. [Royal Engineers]
