An enclosure on the shore of the Firth of Forth, part of which is at present used by the inhabitants in the neighbourhood as a bleaching ground, the other or western part is waste ground. Previous to 1812 the green & other portions (now built on) were called the South Links, but from the circumstance of the volunteers of that period being drilled there the place has since been popularly called the Volunteers Green.
