"Pathhead is in the Western extremity of the Ph. [Parish] (Dysart) at the head of a steep descent leading to Kirkcaldy called the Path & from thence it derives its name. It is divided into Pathhead proper or Dunnikier, & Sinclairton. The former or old town which is of very ancient date, is built on the estate of Dunnikier. The latter or New Town is built on the estate of the Earl of Rosslyn."

"Path-head a quoad sacra parish & a considerable town in the western extremity of the parish of Dysart, & is divided into two districts, Dunnikier, the superior of which is Oswald of Dunnikier, & Siclairtown, belonging to the Earl of Rosslyn."
The above appears to apply to the division for Ecclesiastical purposes, the name Pathhead is generally understood by the inhabitants to apply to that portion of the estate of Dunnikier which is built on, & to extend eastward along the coast from the Path, to a thoroughfare called New Road, on the W [West] side of Ravenscraig Castle, & Northward nearly in a straight line from New Road to the west side of Broad Wynd, & from thence to a [point] 7 chains WSW [West South West] along railway from the Booking office of the sinclairtown station. The locality is bounded on the west by East Burn. All [the] proprietors in Pathhead are feuars of G.G. Oswald Esqr. of Dunnikier.
