[situation] On the Sea Coast S. [South] of Nether Street. "Below the town on a precipice almost surrounded by the sea stands the old Castle of Ravenscraig once the seat of the ancient family of St. Clair but now in ruins" Gazetteer p 490 "About half a mile to the westward of Dysart is the Castle of Ravenscraig. It stands on a steep craig fronting the sea. It with the adjoining lands was given by James 3rd to William Sinclair, Earl of Orkney, when he resigned the title of Orkney. It was given by James III [Third] to William St. Clair Earl of Orkney. It has been ever since possessed by the family of St. Clair.
