014 This is a small portion of the old parish church of Ormiston, said to be only the Vestry or Sacristy which was attached to the church, and has been used as a burying place by the Cockburn family when Lairds of Ormiston. The church was used as a place of worship till 1690, in which year another was erected at Westbyres, and the old one allowed to become a ruin. The principal part of the old edifice was pulled down about 1730 by the then proprietor and trees planted on its site. In the part of the church which is still standing, there is fixed in the wall a marble monument of great antiquity with a Latin inscription written on it of which the following is something near a translation - A long life which indulges all advantages to men - early youth bestowed these upon the Alexander - with a descent and personal appearance worthy of noble blood.
