013 [Situation] About 1 Mile N.W. [North West] from Elphinstone (Tower)
The ruins of an ancient fortalice Situated on Falside Hill within the farm yard of Meikle Falside. It is of great antiquity and appears to have been of considerable strength. On the morning of the Battle of Pinkie in 1547 it was burnt by the English, but it seems to have been but partially destroyed. It belonged to the Setons of Winton.

[Note] It is not improbable that this history applies the name
Falside Castle to a description of Elphinston
Tower, and Elphinston Tower
to Falside Castle. This is probable from the position of the dovecot.

Note the dove cot mentioned in the Stat Acct. [Statistical Account] is said to be
situated near Falside Castle had been removed a few years ago.
