011 A large ruinous Castle on the banks of the Papona Water, about 1/2 a mile east of the Village of Garvald it is a Square Keep or Tower, Such as at the time of its erection, formed the mansions of the lesser Scottish barons it evidently was erected when more regard was paid to strength than to ornamental splendour or accommodation. It is now the property of Mr Balfour of Whittingham. I could not glean any tradition about it more than is Stated in the New Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account]
