| REMAINS OF BARONIAL RESIDENCE (1751) | Continued | and is still used as a garden and attached to Linplum. Of Course the remaining walls are considerably lowered from from what they had been. and from their thicKness and general appearance would appear to have been a place of considerable Strength and demeanor It was a square building having a tower on the north end. Nothing however of the tower north end of the building remains. Lord Charles Hay an official of the English Guards Suceeded to the Estate of Linplum this place on the death of Sir Robert Hay in 1751 See note in "Lamp of Lothian" page 274 and is said to have resided at the place. Linplum Estate is still in the Hay family being the property of - Hay of Nunraw. Altho' [Although] I inserted 1758 on the trace, from what I could learn of Mr. Neillings and another old man on the estate (the gardener) this building would appear to have existed long before that date - It is used as the Residence of the farmers of Linplum prior to the erection of the present farm house - | ||
