On this spot formerly stood the castle of Morham, the residence of the Lord of the manor. All traces of it have disappeared many years ago, but the voice of tradition is unanimous in claiming this as the site. From the given accounts this castle was at one period the residence of Archibald Douglas one of the murderers of Darnley. Mr. Neillings, & the Revd. [Reverend] Mr. Graham pointed out the site
