On the east by Gladsmuir and Pencaitland and on the S. [South] East by Ormiston. Its greatest length from North east to South west is about 5 miles and its extreme breadth 3 miles. Its area is about 9 aquare miles or about 5,464 acres, which is all throughout well cultivated and enclosed with diversified fields and plantations. It has a few villages the principal of which is Tranent containing nearly 2000 inhabitants Tranent is in the Presbytery of Haddington, and Synod of Lothian and Tweeddale. Patron the Crown.
