A small village situated on the Sea Coast about one mile N.E. [North East] of Prestonpans. The houses vary from one to two storeys in height, mostly in good repair, and occupied by fishermen, mechanics, etc. In it are two churches, a School, and a number of saltpans, also two small ports or harbours for the Accommodation fishing boats.
