007 [Situation] About ¾ of a mile W by N [West by North] from East Barns Adjoining Oxwell Mains.
A considerable tract of ground lying S. [South] East of the mansion house of Broxmouth in a line between Brands Mill and Catcraig, generally considered to be the site of a battle betwixt the Parliamentary forces under Cromwell, and the Scotch army under the command of General Leslie. No definate spot Can be pointed out. But this portion of ground when cultivated several human Skeletons were turned up. And at a place marked a on trace near the vaults about a dozen graves were recently discovered they were all formed by rough Stones and paved at the bottom but contained no human remains. "The Battle of Dunbar or Doonhill' fought between Cromwell and General Leslie on the 3rd of September in the year 1650.
