THE GRANARY | Granary Granary Granary |
Mr Walker Mr Blythe J R Dale Esqr |
006 | [Situation] About 5 chains north from the Ph [Parish] Church A plain building two storeys high, situated on a small eminence a little to the north of the parochial Church. It is supposed to have been erected about the same time as the Church but for what purpose is not known, unless it may have been applied to its present use, viz. a storehouse for grain, when tithes were paid in kind. There is a tradition in the locality that queen Mary passed two nights in this building; but this seems very improbable. All in the district agree however, in believing it is very old,and that it was in some way connected with the Church. There is no written account concerning it. |
