004 In the Centre of the Village Stands a rude Pillar with steps leading up to it, the date of its erection cannot be ascertained, it has no inscription on it, nor can it be positively stated that ever a Market was held in the Village, but such Crosses were Common in places where no Markets were held, being a central point for business transactions.

004 Nothing now remains of this once large building, to point out where it was situate, except an unevenness in the ground where the old walls stood, upwards of 50 years ago it fell into the hands of the Earl of Wemyss who raised it to the ground and enclosed the surrounding lands with the stone of it. The Revd [Reverend] Mr Smith pointed the site of it out to me.
