NEWHOUSE | Newhouse | Thomas Christison Aberlady James Armstrong Aberlady Mr Lambe Aberlady Lodge. |
004 | A large stone building two storys in good repair and unoccupied, it is the property of the Earl of Wemyss. It was first built by the burgh of Haddington, for a store house having a grant from King James VI of a Charter to construct a Harbour at this place with a right of road from Haddington to it. No Harbour or Pier was ever constructed in it and the house when partly built by them was abandoned, and never completed or roofed until after it was purchased by the present proprietor, who along with it, purchased all the other priviledges which the above Charter confer'd on the burgh of Haddington. |
