56 St. Andrew's or Gullane Church (Ruins of)

"The ruins of the old parish church of Golyn
are still in good preservation. A view of these is given
in Grose's Antiquities". Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account] 1841.

"The ancient name of Dirleton parish was Golyn and the old church stood at the village [of Golyn]
till the year 1612 when it was removed to Dirlton by an act of parliament. Golyn derives its n[ame]
from the British Go-lyn signifying a little lake And in fact there is still a pond here, [within]
the village of Golyn. The church of Golyn which was dedicated to St Andrew is very ancient."
