John R. Dale Esq. Scoughall Mr. Wallace Ph. [Parish] Schoolmaster Whitekirk |
003 | This object was discovered by George Sligo Esq. late proprietor of Seacliff about 15 years ago when making a road past the place. It is a large rough Stone or portion of a rock which appears to have fallen from the precipiece at the base of which it now is. when discovered it was examined by Mr. Sligo & Some Antiquaries from Edinburgh. who said it is a "Scandinavian Temple". It is not well known in the Country by the above designation, and the Authorities here given say that it cannot be clearly proven to have ever been a Temple of any description. |
