Conjoined is a Reading Room; a prison Consisting of one apartment for debtors and two apartments beneath for Criminal offenders, in tolerable condition. The Burgh officer is the Gaoler - "who, in his own person embodies the entire police of the Burgh".

002 A House at the West end of High Street at its Junction with Westgate, built in 1830 and endowed by the Burgh, to remedy the deficiencies of the Parochial School. These deficiencies having been removed by the appointment of a Competent schoolmaster to the Par. [Parish] School, the Burgh school was suppressed and is now used for Public Lectures, Concerts, sales, etc.
