002 | The Ruins & Remains of what is Stated to have been a Cistertian Monastery founded by Duncan, Earl of Fife, who died in 1154. It was Consecrated to the Virgin Mary and richly Endowed with lands in the Manor of North Berwick and had also revenues from different other Sources. It was evidently a magnificent Structure, and covered an extensive area; it is now Sadly dilapidated, yet the massive remains sufficiently testify that it was one of the largest buildings of the Kind in the age in which it was built. |
