The site of an ancient encampment on the farm of carfare. every vestige of it has been removed about 50 years ago. It is said to have resembled the one on Garvald, but whether of Danish, Roman or British origin cannot now be ascertained in the locality altho' [although] some think that it was of Danish erection on account of some Danish names being in the locality.

is a large fortification or encampment Situated on a rising
ground it is of a circular form and is in circumference about
1500 feet. A little to the westward on the farm of Carfrae there
was till lately an encampment nearly of the same form and
dimensions"
