012 | The site of a castle which formerly belonged to the family of Hepburn relations of Bothwell there is nothing now remaining to mark the the place as it is all taken away and ploughed over the only remains that existed within the memory of the oldest inhabitant was a small portion of the vaulted rooms of the ground floor the walls were about 3 Feet in thickness but it did not appear to have been place of great strength or extent, there is a few trees to the N & E [North & East] of the site that are said to mark the extent of the garden that was attached to this castle the above is all that can be gleaned in the locality respecting this place |

[Reverend] Mitchell |
