012 An extensive camp in good preservation situate on the Summit of Summerhouse hill within Dunglass Domain it is supposed to have been made by the French during the regency of Queen Mary but it partakes more of the nature of a redoubt than a camp at the N.W. [North West] and S.W. [South West] corners it is defended by Salient angles and there is an outer ditch round it all except on the South Side which is a very steep bank for 2 or 3 hundred feet down at the east side is a circular mound and it appears that a tent has been placed here there is a Summerhouse on the Summit of the redoubt but it is out of repair at present
