An elegant modern mansion situated at the top of a steep bank on the western margin of Dunglas Burn, with suitable offices gardens etc. attached, surrounded by a large well wooded demesne. It is the property and residence of Sir James Hall Bart. [Baronet]. This mansion stands on the site of Dunglas Castle which "was one of the many strongholds of the Earls of Home." "After the attainder of Lord Home in 1516, it appears occasionally to have been held by the Douglases."
