Its north side is very steep, and the south side was defended by three parallel ramparts the remains of which still exist. Within the Fort, at the top of the sloping N. [North] side are two small Knowes - which I consider were used for Beacons or Signals. It is called in the locality the "Witches' Knowe" from its peculiar & evidently artificial appearance.
