Robert Neillans of Garvald Says that "in the reign of William & Mary this house was occupied by Mr Hume who was collector of Land Tax" It is upwards of 80 years ago since it was inhabited, and previous to that time it had been long occupied by shepherds. This building does not appear to have ever been a fortified place.
