"It is supposed that this hill derived its name from a stone which formerly [stood] on it, and at which a person of the name of MacKenzie, of which Mackenny is the corrupted form, was found dead, MacKenzie in Gaelic is MacCoinneach, or the son of Kenneth, but the name of this hill is never pronounced in pure Gaelic" Supp. [Supplied] by Examiner.
