The Revd. [Reverend] Mr. Murray says that this is a name handed down from Catholic times,
The Ancient Church of Mouswald was dedicated to St Peter, the precise Site of which cannot be pointed out. Antiquarians agree in stating that this well was connected therewith, and that the church itself would be in the immediate vicinity, but there are neither documents nor facts extant to prove these assertions.
