There was a house in this wood called Burnhouse from a small burn which runs through, this fact gives rise to the name now used for the wood, The house stood a few chains west of the wood

A Steep brae which rises abruptly to a craggy head and consists now of a fir plantation thick & close, the trees tall and slightly mixed with forest trees , the name applies to the Plantation but originally it was to the Brae & rising craggy summit ( angle of 45° )
