An old house two Storeys high - in good repair, Occupied as the Dumfries & Maxwelltown Mechanics' Institution in it is kept the Library consisting of nearly 1400 volumes and a reading room where the leading Newspapers and periodicals are supplied to members.- There is also a Hall in which classes in connection with the Institution are held . The Library is upheld chiefly by Donations.
