A low lying hill on the West side of Springfield-Hill, and nearly on the Banks of Dryfe Water between the lands of Dryfeholm and Torwood Moor. the great contest between the Maxwells and Johnstones, 7th Decr. [December] 1593, called the Battle of "Dryfe Sands" was continued till one of principals called "Bell of Albie" was slain. A Thorn, marking the Site of his death, is closely adjacent.
