058 [Situation] In N.En. [North Eastern] Ph. [Parish] district. 17 chns [chains] NW. [North West] from N.En. [North Eastern] point of Parish --
Applied to an old square building of ancient date; it appears to have been a strong hold in former days as there is a winding stairs to the top and commanding a good prospect on the W [West]. It is three story high, but there is nothing to indicate in what year it was erected nor could any person tell me, or give the least information on the subject.
TOWER [Bonshaw] Bonshaw Tower (the modern building) A Pearson Esqre Bonshaw Tower 058 This tower is attached to a spacious Mansion the seat of the Revd. [Reverend] Mr Irvin, and is called after the same name as the Tower, all of which is the property of that Gentleman. He is not at present residing there but has it let to a Mr Pearson, I am told only for one year. This house is ornamented by ever greens and has numerous office houses belonging to it in the same vicinity, all of which are in good repair.
