022.08 | An excellent and undulating glade in front of Marchmont House. A considerable number of the trees near the present building bear a majestic appearance Over the remainder and are supposed to be of the same age as Redbraes Castle. The greater part of this Avenue, which is said to be one of the largest in Scotland, has been planted at the time of the Erection of Marchmont House about 120 ago. It extends in a north Easterly direction for more than a mile, at the terminus stands a dove cot, from which the adjoining farm receives its name. |
