018.05 ; 018.09 This ancient and renowned Castle occupied the summit of a steep craggy, bank overhanging the Whiteadder, and in consequence of its close proximity to the borders was deemed a place of considerable strength and importance. It often like the Fortress of Berwick passed between the two nations being seldom retained long in the hands of either. It was burnt by the Duke of Gloucester's army in 1482 but was soon rebuilt. The remains now consist of two small portions of a tower which form the gable ends of an outhouse in the Farm steading built within the ditch or moat.

018.05 A large rectangular built Flour mill, on the left bank of the Whiteadder. This mill is modern but is supposed to occupy the same position, as the mill belonging to the Castle of Edrington commonly called the Cairnmills, which is much spoken of in history. It is the Property of James Jeffrey Oswald.
