018.02 Mordington Ph. [Parish] School situated at Clappers is a modern built Room, adjoining the Schoolmasters House. The scholars are of both sexes, the yearly average being 80. They are taught reading and writing &c. &c. It is endowed by the Chief landed propertors of the parish.
STARCH-HOUSE TOLL Starch House Toll Charles Blaig

018.02 This Toll is situated on the County Road leading from Berwick to Dunse. Its situation being on the Borders. It is one of the famed Altars of Hymen generally used for clandestine marriages. It is occupied by Mr. John Thompson and the property of the Road Trustees. The word Starch House is derived from a Starch Manufactory being at this place. There are several other Houses, which were the property of the late Dr. Digran of Dunse the property now is disposed between heirs.
