018.01 A very neat but small village pleasantly situated on the north side of the road leading from Chirnside to Berwick and about four miles from the latter place.
The houses are built of brick (in imitation of English cottages.) which gives it a very clean and neat appearance. It contains a Church. Manse. [parish] and a private School, also a small grocers shop. The houses are occupied generally by farm laborers,- The population is about 100, It is the property of John Wilkie, Esq.
