After a g[good] quantity of large stones had been taken for building purposes, the tenant of path[Sisterpath], Mr Cockburn, about 30 years ago, desirous to remove the remainder and cu[cultivate] the ground, and in so doing found ab[about] four feet below the surface a Stone Co[Coffin] 4 1/2 feet long inside, containing appeari[appearingly] the ashes of a human being, immed [immediately] towards the West of this Coffin, there [--] found a urn of Common Earthenwa [Earthenware] which unfortunately became broken by [--] implement and a large brass ring very m[much] corroded, such as might have been us[used] for military purposes. The Coffin being ciently[sufficiently] under ground does not obstruct [--] plough and has therefore not been re[removed] from its site. |
