030.03 A very Steep hill of considerable elevation lying a short distance South of the village of Earlstoun. With the exception of the east Side, it is all Covered round with Rough pasture & furze together with a Projection of rocks which Presents a bold aspect upon the North Side leaving it a very black appearance and hence the name.
It is the property of Robert Cotswarth CawdenKnowes. On its top are the remains of an Ancient Roman encampment.
