009.03 | A large & imposing building Situated on an eminence -- form an oblong Square, 40 feet by 24 & 45 feet high with a parapet wall or battlement about 3 feet high - the walls in some places are about 5 feet thick ----- It was once the hold of a Kinsman of the Douglassess & one of a chain of Towers built to defend this part of the Country -- It is the only one not in ruins, & seems to be the only house in the Lammermoors which answers to the description of "Ravenswood" in the Waverley Tales -- It is very neatly fitted up, & used as a Shooting Box by Lord Aberdour who is the owner ---- |
