It is likewise known by the name of Devils Cairn. |

The remains of a circle of great blocks of stones irregular and of unequal height It would appear that when entire there was generally an outer and inner circle with a sort of intervening embankment carried round the circles to the East or North East these ditches were turned of to form a sort of Avenue by which the circle was approached. there are now remaining only four upright stones about 6 feet high and about 4 feet thick. And within the stone circle is the alter stone a large stone laying flat considerably to the south of the centre of the circle and is said to be the one where human victims were immolated, The Druids are said to have derived thier name from Drus an Oak their religious rites being often celebrated under the shade of that tree. |

A very bold eminence can be seen from the German Ocean and Moray Firth, and in many places at the distance of thirty miles, its summit or top appearing almost like a riding saddle from the east & west. It is situated in the lands of the Duke of Richmond, the Earl of Fifes Trustees, Cobairdy and Bognie Brae, it is traditionaly recorded that four proprietors met on the top and dined of one table each sitting in his own property hence the origin of the name. |
