015.11 A site of a Druidical cairn where it is supposed that a Danish officer named Kemp was buried.
A STONE COFFIN FOUND HERE A.D. 1745 [Kemp's Cairn] 015.11 In 1745 a large stone coffin or cist was found and although I have made diligent inquiry amongst the oldest inhabitants. I have been unable to gain any information as to whether it contained any thing, or not. it was allowed to remain as a curiosity until about 40 years ago when it was removed by John Cruickshank farmer Knauchland. however the stones of the coffin are sitll to be seen built in an adjoining fence.
