015.07 | A most remarkable number of small mounds or Tumuli several of which have been recently opened and all found to contain Urns with human remains, enclosed, large numbers have been removed, by the farmer for the sake of the stones of which the are formed, and also in process of reclaiming the moorland. After much investigation I find that their existence is only known to the proprietor and one or two farmers living near the locality. Nothing authentic is Known about thier origin, but they are supposed to mark the burial place of Soldiers Slain in an important battle fought at this place. |
