022 A series of rude excavations on the banks of the Deveron supposed by most authorities to be the work of the Danes during one of their numerous incursions into the interior of the country. immediately opposite on the other bank the same features are still visible locally, known as Wallace Camp, these remains are considered to be much more ancient than the time of Wallace altho [although] the origin of the name is not know. It is evident from the apearance of these remains there that the passage of the river contested & that each opponent entrenched themselves in this manner, for protection, many flint arrow heads & other rude implements of warfare have been found in the locality.
