006.09 A considerable village Situated on the Shore of Gamrie Bay: Consisting Chiefly of fishermen's dwellings, A few Small general Shops: A number of fish curing Sheds, three public houses, A U.P. [United Presbyterian] Church, And an Unendowed School. The houses are generally the property of the tenants, being feus held in perpetuity under the Laird of Troup.
There is no Post Office in the Village, only an iron Letter Box, fixed in the wall of one of the houses near the centre of the Village.
"The village of Gardenstown appears from a record in the baptismal register to have been built in the year 1720, and has remained nearly Stationary ever since."
