003.06 Extensive ruins, of an ancient fortified castle; standing on a high precipitous, peninsulated rock on the sea coast, the South Wall and some vaulted dungeons and apartments, are still in good preservation.
FOSSE AND DRAWBRIDGE (Remains of) Fosse & Drawbridge (In Ruins) 003.06 On the land side it appears to have been protected by a strong wall, and a fosse and drawbridge.
FOSSE 003.06 Farther inland, on the top of the Main Cliff, there are still visible, traces of another fosse and rampart, for defending the approach to the fort.
DOVE COT [Findlater Castle] 003.06 The Dove cot. which belonged to the Castle stands near the farm steading of the Barnyards of Findlater, and is still in good preservation, and used for its original purpose - It is now the property of the Earl of Seafield - Date of erection not known.
